White upper cabinets, warm wood tones and a generous seating peninsula bring this Encinitas kitchen together. Completed by Ambar Builders as part of a larger whole-home renovation, the finished space combines a bright palette with details that give the room warmth and character.

Here’s a closer look at the kitchen renovation, from a glimpse during construction to the completed space.

Completed Encinitas kitchen remodel with two-tone cabinetry, peninsula seating, wood-tone range hood and recessed lighting.

Two-Tone Cabinetry Creates Contrast

The cabinetry sets the tone for the room. White upper cabinets keep the walls visually light, while darker wood-tone lower cabinets anchor the kitchen and introduce a warmer finish.

Shaker-style cabinet fronts provide a consistent detail across both colors. Upper cabinetry extends toward the ceiling visually raising the height of the room while drawers and cupboards provide storage around the cooking area and peninsula.

For homeowners considering a kitchen remodel, this project offers an example of how contrasting cabinet finishes can work together without making the room feel busy.

A Peninsula for Preparation and Gathering

The peninsula is a central feature of this Encinitas kitchen remodel. Its light countertop extends beyond the cabinetry to accommodate three stools, creating a place to sit alongside the kitchen’s working area.

That arrangement provides room for casual meals or conversation while keeping the center of the kitchen open. The peninsula also adds countertop space and storage beneath.

An island isn’t the only way to introduce seating into a kitchen. Depending on the room’s dimensions and circulation, a peninsula can be worth considering when planning the layout.

Light Surfaces and Warm Finishes

Light countertops and a white tile backsplash complement the upper cabinetry. Their pale finishes contrast with the lower cabinets and wood-look flooring, creating a balance between brightness and warmth.

Above the stainless-steel range, a wood-tone hood forms a focal point. Its color echoes the lower cabinetry, connecting the cooking area with the rest of the room.

A dark faucet adds another point of contrast at the sink, while understated cabinet hardware lets the larger surfaces take the lead.

Lighting Across the Kitchen

Recessed ceiling lights provide lighting throughout the space, with under-cabinet lighting illuminating the counters beneath the upper cabinets.

The finished photo shows how those layers work alongside the room’s light surfaces. The backsplash and countertop areas remain visually bright, while the cabinetry retains its contrasting tones.

Lighting deserves attention early in kitchen planning. Cabinet locations, work surfaces and appliance positions all help determine where illumination will be most useful.

Part of an Encinitas Whole-Home Renovation

This kitchen was completed within a larger whole-home renovation in Encinitas.

When a kitchen forms part of a wider renovation, it’s helpful to consider its relationship with the surrounding rooms. Flooring, cabinetry colors, lighting and sightlines can all influence how the finished spaces feel together.

Here, the warm flooring and restrained cabinet palette give the kitchen a cohesive appearance while allowing the range hood and peninsula to stand out.
